It is with deep regret and sadness  to advise of the passing of Handball legend Michael "Ducksie" Walsh who passed away early on Thursday 4th August following a short battle with illness.
Ducksie was a tremendous competitor, a sportsman par excellence and an iconic figure whose loss has left the entire handball community numb with grief. A winner of an incredible 38 Senior All-Ireland titles including a record 16 Senior Softball titles, winning 13 in a row from 1985-1997 - his name will forever be synonymous with the sport.

Walsh, who turned 50 in May  fell ill on the way home from a senior doubles tournament in Cavan last Saturday and passed away on Thursday  4th August.

Ducksie  was on top of his game to the end. Just a fortnight ago, in the inaugural Irish 60x30 Singles Nationals in his home court of Talbot’s Inch, Walsh defeated number one-ranked Eoin Kennedy of Dublin in the final of the Open Singles. Sincere Sympathy to his Family & many Friends at this sad time.

The game of Handball was described at the beginning of the Century as a test of strength, stamina & above all skill. It is a beautiful combination of safe bodily & mental exercise - the eye sees, the mind directs & the hand executes. There is scarcely a muscle of the body but gets healthful exercise.
