World Handball Finals in Minnesota USA August 2018

Tipperary Players have fared very well at the World Handball Championships in Minnesota USA. They return with 2 Gold & 2 Silver in 1 Wall & 4 Gold & 4 Silver in 4 Wall.

James Prentice from Ballina  kicked off with a great win in the 19 & Under 1 Wall singles beating Sean Kerr in the Final 19/21, 21/5, 11/9. He followed this up with partner Patrick Murphy from Mayo in the Doubles beating no 1 Seeds Diarmuid Mulkerins & David Walsh also in a tie Break 21/15, 17/21, 11/5.  Sinead Meagher from Nenagh teamed up with Caitriona Millane from Clare and the reached the final of the Girls 19 & Under Doubles where they were beaten by Leah Doyle & Molly Dagg from Kildare.

In the Boys 15 & Under Rory Grace partnered by Mikey Kelly from Galway won Silver when they were beaten in the final by Josh Cavanagh & Mark Doyle from Wexford.

In the Four Wall in Mens 40B Doubles Brian O Brien & John Kennedy from the Silvermines  took Gold beating Kieran Bourke & Paul Herr in the Final 21/2, 21/7

Sinead Meagher from Nenagh had better luck in the 4 Wall taking Gold in Girls 19 & Under Beating Megan Mc Cann 21/12, 17/21, 11/6 in the final.

In the Boys 19 & Under Doubles Jerome Cahill & Tiernan Agnew Clare won Silver beaten in Final by Sean Kerr & Shane Dunne (Tyrone/Kilkenny

David Moloney from Cashel had a comprehensive win in the Mens 45+ beating Michael Benkelman from USA 21/0, 21/2

In the 50+ Final John O Donoghue Cashel partnered by Niall Kerr from Tyrone beat Jeff Cottam & Rob Pearse USA 21/11, 11/21, 11/4.

In the Mens 45+ Doubles David Moloney & John O Donoghue from Cashel   had to settle for silver when they were beaten in the final by Kevin Hill & Matthew Hiber from USA  21/3, 21/14.

In the Mens A Singles Daniel Hayes from Cashel was beaten in the final by Jack O Shea from Kerry 17/21, 21/5, 11/5.

In the Mens A Doubles Daniel Hayes partnered by Paul Hedderman from Limerick were beaten by Seamus O Conghaile & Ian Mc Loughlin 21/9, 21/18.

Overall Irish Players won all the Major titles winning both Ladies & Mens Open Singles & Doubles as well as most of the Junior Grades.

Well done to all who travelled & Competed and brought back World Silver & Gold Medals.

 



Win for James Prentice  (Ballina Tipp)  U19  - Bt Sean Kerr in Tie Breaker   '
Up against No 1 Seed Sean Kerr James lost 1st Game 21-19. He won the second 21-5. In a tight nailbiter of a tie break James held his nerve and won 11-9.  World Champion after Beating No 1 , No 2 & No 3 seeds.
